Instructions of the Student: The Method of Learning
A free weekly online class on Burhān al-Dīn al-Zarnūjī’s concise classic of practical advice for those seeking knowledge — taught by Maulana Asim Awan on Zoom from August 2023.
The Al Ghazzali Institute offers free weekly online classes open to all. In this series students read through and studied Instructions of the Student: The Method of Learning (Taʿlīm al-Mutaʿallim) by Burhān al-Dīn al-Zarnūjī (ra), taught by Maulana Asim Awan every Wednesday from 8pm to 9pm.
The book is a concise work of practical advice for those seeking to study knowledge — the nature and merit of knowledge, the purpose of study, the choices in learning, reliance on God, the time for acquiring knowledge, useful means for attaining it, abstinence during study, memory and forgetfulness, and one’s livelihood and life. The text is out of print but is available online.
