Diploma in Islamic Studies (Leicester) 2024

Alhumdulillah I completed the 2 year program by Al-Ghazzali Institute covering essential knowledge in subject areas of Aqeeda, Fiqh, Hadith and Tafsir.

I cannot recommend the program highly enough, it was an eye opener as to firstly what is even regarded as essential knowledge (quite different to what my perceptions were), and secondly the importance of the knowledge in better understanding Islam, Allah, and His beloved Messenger.

In the current climate, with the challenges that we are facing with regards to our faith, it is of utmost importance to know the basics, not only to be able to answer objections and accusations that come our way, but to be able to teach our children and family members. Moreso than that, to try and protect our own beliefs from confusion and dilution.

From seemingly 'simple' questions like proving the existence of Allah, to learning about the Surah's we recite daily so that it's not just recitation but understanding the context also.

The program is very well structured, done at a pace that was suitable to all, with time taken by the teachers to ensure all of the content was understood by the students, in answering questions and in engaging in discussions about the topics.

Prior to starting doubts were creeping in about the 2 year commitment, however once it started it was very enjoyable and something to look forward to each week.

Having enrolled onto the course, I gained a lot of beneficial knowledge in detail. Learning about Aqidah strengthen my imaan greatly and allowed me to view Islamic knowledge in a different way as now I'm able to see the root of our beliefs.

Studying Fiqh helped to build upon the basic knowledge I already learned attending Madrassah in my youth.

Year 2 consisted of Tafsir and Hadith in which we went through some of the shorter Surahs and Imam Nawawi's arbaeen. This was interesting to learn the context and meaning of the most common Surahs I pray in my Salah. It was insightful to learn a few important Hadith that narrated the basics of our Faith, teaching us the importance of studying and developing our character.

Overall I cannot recommend this course enough. I believe this knowledge is essential for all Muslims whether they plan to take their studies further or not. The teachers were helpful and always willing to answer any questions we had.

Alhamdulillah I really enjoyed the two year diploma. The teachers were really engaging and gave space for discussion and debate which I really valued. Also covering four different topics meant there was lots of variety whilst still having enough time to go deep into each subtopic area. Also having a regular weekly slot for two hours made it really easy to schedule and meant I had enough time for everything else in my life and I'd strongly encourage others to join.
